What is a Rescheck?  A Rescheck is a report generated by software from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and Department of Energy’s softwares, Rescheck Web and Rescheck Desktop. This report calculates whether an addition, alteration, or new home construction is above or below the requirements of the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) or other applicable energy codes. The value of Rescheck and Rescheck softwares is that allows all parties involved to quickly determine compliance and see if the structures being built meet or exceed prevailing energy codes. Rescheck is a valuable tool because it allows you to use trade offs between building assemblies when calculating your compliance score. For example, a wall that has insulation that is below code might be able to still be constructed if the roof on the same structure had insulation that was above code. Each project is different, but allowing the entire building envelope to work as a unit allows Rescheck to be the highest standard of Energy Code Software and IECC Energy Code Reporting.

Rescheck for additions is very similar to new construction. However, only the portions of a structure that are added or altered would be entered into Rescheck Web or Rescheck Desktop.

If a home is undergoing an Alteration, the Rescheck softwares will allow you exempt the sections of the home that are not being altered. An example would be that if you adding new windows to a living room and not disturbing the roof or walls. You can simply add the windows to Rescheck Web or Rescheck Desktop and the software allows for the absolute exemption of the existing roof and walls that were not altered.

Rescheck is the perfect software for calculating window and insulation trade offs for residential one family, and residential two family structures. You can also use it for multifamily buildings as long as they have less than three of their stories above ground level. Duplexes, apartments, condos, and townhouses could all have their IECC energy code compliance calculated using Rescheck Web or Rescheck Desktop in many cases.
