Rescheck: The Easy Way to Make Your Home More Sustainable

Today on the Reschexpert blog we are going to discuss how Rescheck software is an easy way to make your home more sustainable. Both Rescheck Web and Rescheck Desktop are powerful softwares that can help you pinpoint holes in your home’s insulation envelope. Sit back and enjoy as we discuss easy ways to make your home more efficient with Rescheck.
With Rescheck there are 3 types of construction available in Rescheck Web and Rescheck Desktop. We will discuss each one and how you might make each type of construction more energy efficient with Rescheck.
Can I do the REScheck myself? (Step By Step Guide)
New Construction: With New Construction in Rescheck the easiest way to make sure you are building the most energy efficient possible is to put all of your insulation envelope components into the software. This will be your roof, skylights, walls, windows, doors, and the foundation. After you enter each item click “check compliance’. If your score passes move to the next item. If the project fails you may need to improve that particular component. However, the beauty of Rescheck is that some of your other components can compensate for less efficient ones so the entire insulation envelope acts as a team. Check each component with more efficient and less efficient components and you can pinpoint the areas that improve and reduce your score the most.
Addition: An addition is different in Rescheck reporting, because you will only look at the areas that were added. The existing home, if undisturbed, can be left off the report. However, let’s say that you are building an addition and through your greatest efforts in Rescheck Web your Rescheck will only pass if you use R19 walls. You know from experience that your current home only has R13 batts. This would give you the insight that maybe your existing home could use an insulation upgrade as well, because the insulation it has today is not longer enough to pass. Having a new addition that passes, and improving areas of an existing home are a great way to improve a home’s energy efficiency with Rescheck reporting.
Simple Instructions to Complete a Rescheck
Alteration: In an alteration it is similar to an addition. However the Addition in Rescheck will give you a percentage based pass or fail score. When you move to an alteration it only gives a Pass or Fail grade on your Rescheck. The alteration is basically a remodel and it only includes the items you are going to upgrade. If you swap out drywall and do not disturb your insulation then it can be exempted. Only the components upgraded would be scored. So a new window install would be included on the report and subject to pass or fail. Looking at the new components can help you decide which old components may need an energy upgrade. Rescheck is a great report to help with this decision making projess on Rescheck Alteration projects.
