How to do a Rescheck

Today on the Reschexpert blog we want to talk to you about a very common questions we see on the Rescheck Help Line. That questions is how do I do a Rescheck?

Basically if you want to start creating Reschecks the number one resource you are going to need is time. We suggest that it takes a new Rescheck creator about 10-14 of study, software exercise, and practice to create their first correct Rescheck. If you have this amount of time, carry on.

The next thing you are going to need is a computer and an internet connection. For ease of use and availability of IECC 2018 we are going to suggest you use Rescheck Web from the Department of Energy’s website to learn how to Rescheck.

Once you have Rescheck open go ahead and start with the foundation of home. Find out what type of foundation your construction project has and then the area it encompasses. Once you have this make note of the R value.

Next on your Rescheck you are going to move up to the walls that are on the exterior of the structure. Measure all of these and find the total square footage. Break them into North, South, East, and West facing sections. Make note of the R value then enter them into Rescheck web.

Find your Windows. For most windows you will need the U value and SHGC. Find which ones are on the North, South, East, and West wall and correspond those with windows with the correct wall system. Enter them into Rescheck Web.

Next do the same with your doors. If your door is solid you will not have an SHGC. If it is glass you will have both an SHGC and a U Value. Enter them on to the correct wall within Rescheck Web.

Finally your roof system. Find the square footage of your roof system and the R value. Now type this into Rescheck web.

On the project page of your Rescheck you need to pick the city and state. Enter whether you are building new construction, addition, or alteration. Then list out the full address, contractor name, and owner name.

Once you have this save the project and click check compliance. Then generate a report. Now sign and date it. Then print it and turn it in for your permit.

Thanks for reading the Reschexpert blog for some easy steps to use when creating your Rescheck for construction. If you need someone to create your Rescheck for you email plans, jobsite address, and square footage to service@rescheck.info and we will get you taken care of.
